Yes, your business could do better in its ability to be found in local search. Maybe it’s time for a little Local Search Engine Optimization update.
Start with the Mother Ship. Google Places
When driving people from the Internet to your front door, we start with a listing in Google Places for Business Since this is where most searches will get their information from, we need to make sure we claim our territory and make sure it tells Google what we want it to tell and not what they think we want to tell the world about our business.
The information needs to be key word optimized, not stuffed. Google can tell when you are trying to add more fluff than meat to your profile. Keep it fresh, descriptive, real and to the point.
- There is a difference between adventure tours and wild amazon adventure tours. between a simple hotel room, a hostel and a luxury retreat that uses Calimine Scented soaps in their tall showers.
- There is a difference between being at 7437 S eastern and being on Eastern Avenue.
- There is a difference between “we service all bikes” and “we service all bikes including classic Schwinn and Indian”
- Photos sell. Need I say more??
Social Media Needs to be Socially Correct
When the search engines go searching for you, they need to know they can trust what they are finding. Do all your points of Internet Contacts say the exact same thing?
The more social media sites you are on and with each saying the same thing, you get extra love from the search engines. That’s the nice thing about Internet marketing. The size of your business doesn’t matter to the search engine spiders. They just look for the words and the right connections.
Does your Yelp profile describe your business the same way as your FourSquare profile? How about your facebook page? Does it say who you are? Where you are and what time you close? It better! It needs to.
The key is t keep it all current and up to date. Can’t have last years hours if you cut back or added this year. Your photos need to show a clean location, specialty products or services and smiling workers and customers.
The Importance of you Website
Never under-estimate the importance of you own website. Think of it as your dock and all the other web sites and social media profiles are attached to it. they feed off each other and have one thing in common. One place it will lead clients back to. The Website.
Popular social media sites will come and go. Their rules and Terms of Service (TOS) will change and your clients will move to new ones. But you will always have the website for them to go back to.
Your website needs to tell the world you are on the web and on Social Media. Linking from your website to your social media profiles gives you search engine love points. So keep that current and informative on your business location, hours and services.
